A friend picked up a emachine from a yard sale. I said I would get it updated with AVG and such. My first issue is the display settings is stuck at 640 x something and Large fonts. So needless to say I can't see all of the screen. I went at it every which way, but I can't change it. Is this a virus? I am scanning at house calls right now. Also, I was going to do a system restore. I think the first thing the girl did when she got the internet was download something stupid. I can't find it. Is it called something else in Windows 98.

640X480. Display drivers should cure this.

On a working, internet capable machine, download Everest Home Edition, then transfer it to this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's installed, run it and look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have.

(Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.) Post that information.

System Restore:
Boot the machine into RAW DOS. (At boot, tap the F8 key and choose Command prompt only). At the C:\> prompt, type in scanreg/restore.

This should start the process.
