Hello all and thank you Admins for this forum!

If this is misplaced, please move to the proper category.

I have a D-Link USB WLAN stick, model DWL-G132, which was WORKING PROPERLY prior to a system crash/BSoD.

The PC is an older Dell laptop 1Ghz processor, 512mb RAM, and one sad, old USB 1.0 port.

I have re-installed WinXP SP2 and run all Windows updates with the exception of .Net stuff.

I have tried loading the drivers from the CD that came with the D-Link, downloaded a different driver from the support.d-link.com site, and have checked DevMgr to confirm that all devices were unning properly, no red "x's", no yellow cautions.

It will SEE the local wireless LAN/WWW, but nothing I've done will connect it.

I would be very grateful for anything to try.

Shell to a DOS command and see if you can ping localhost. Try pinging www.google.com, and try pinging your DNS server. Try ipconfig /release, and ipconfig /renew. Make sure you have done windows critical updates and windows hardware updates. Let us know how things go.

http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=51837 Make sure you plug the device directly into a USB connection on the computer. Do not use a USB hub, especially if it is a non powered hub. Remove all protocols and services and reboot the computer. Reinstall all the needed protocols and services but do not install any unneeded protocol or services. Make sure that whatever you install has only Microsoft attached to its name. After doing all this, let us know what protocols and services you have installed.
