So we've had a WiFi network set up in my house for a while, using a WRG614v6 by Netgear and a DSL connection from Cincinnati Bell. Up till now it's worked out great. Recently the network's been acting up- the network speed jumps from 54mbps (the usual) to 1-2mbps, and back again, slowing the Internet on all of our wireless computers down to an almost unbrowsable experience (and forget about online games or streaming video). When plugged in directly to our router, the laptop works fine. So because it affects all the wireless computers, but plugged in the internet works fine, I assume it is the wireless part of the router that is the problem. I've tried unplugging both the router and the DSL modem and replugging them, but neither worked. What should I do? Update the router firmware? Reset it to factory settings? Build the network from scratch again? Please help.

Welcome to SAF !!

I've seen the same issue but not in Cinn :-)

My friend called in Bellsouth (in this case) was the DSL router, your setup config numbers shouldn't be any problem.

It sound like you are saying you go from wireless to wired CAT5. Am I right on this?

What should I do? Update the router firmware?
If firmware updates are available then update the firmware. Check the phone cable connections on the outside of the house. Loosen the connections, remove corrosion, and then re-tighten the connections. The bolts might be made of brass so don't over torque.
