Coloured squares have suddenly started to appear on the monitor in intermittent horizontal lines (see photo) Have tried to resolve problem but can't find anything wrong and would appreciate any comments/assistance.

Wow. That would drive me nuts! What have you done so far to resolve it?

1) Try plugging in another monitor if you can. If the problem persists it's likely the vid card.
2) Have you rolled back the drivers and reinstalled updated ones?

Ok, Well I left the computer + monitor switched off over night and it seems to have resolved the issue thankfully.

Thanks anyway,
Scott

That still sounds fishy like it might come back. If it does, please try the above. Good luck!

Hmm very strange. How old is the monitor? Might need a good degaussing.

Well, off the top of my head I'd say it's one of two things, both of which can be checked by swapping a video card.

1. Video card is bad. If it's onboard video, then try a card. If you have a card installed then try another one. Most of the time is the memory on the card itself which commonly causes this.

2. It may be the power regulation in the monitor is bad. However, you'll also figure this out by swapping video cards. If it persists then you know it's the monitor.

Unfortunately, it's a process of elimination, but not a difficult one.
