Hullo,

I have installed nod32 as antivirus and was very suprised to see it can only scan outlook emails.
Now I'm not sure it does scan any mail at all : although it says "moniteur emails MS outlook activé" the number of scanned emails remains 0. I have Outlook express but I don't suppose it makes a difference.

What is wrong with this nod32?

I've heard it was a very good antivirus but now I'm wondering...

Thank you for any help you might provide

Hi Callista,

I did a quick readup on Nod32 - and from what I can see it can only scan SMTP and POP3 email traffic.

If you have your Outlook Express configured to use IMAP then Nod32 cannot scan it.

Outlook Express *is* a different program from Outlook, from what I remember the main difference is that Outlook Express cannot talk to Exchange servers, but there may be others.

I don't have OE here to try, but there should be an Option or Preference on how it talks to your (ISP's) mail server. Check those settings, and if they are indeed set to use IMAP then that explains why Nod32 doesn't scan it.

Hope this helps,

ronald.

Thank you Ronald.
I am set on SMTP/POP3.
Actually I just migrated from Incredimail (which I want to drop in favor of Thunderbird anyway) because I thought nod32 only scanned Outlook so I gave it a try.
Now after some more research it seems IMON (internet monitor) scans emails while EMON (email monitor) is set for Outlook only?? Geeze this nod32 is strange. confused.gif

May I assume my IM (and soon thunderbird) emails are duly scanned by IMON?

Nothing better than not opening unknown e-mails...
I have my preview pane always closed, so, I can delete any unknown mail before I read the others. rolleyes.gif

The problem today is: reading a single text from any e-mail can infect your system, as the attachments are not the only thing you may watch for.

Never ever read a text from any unknown sender mail which does not have attachments, as new baddies are now embedded in the mail text. Also, disconnect from the internet before opening any e-mail.

As far as I know, those A/Vs only scans the attached files, not the mail content itself.

Hi Chris how've ya been? hello.gif

I already do everything you say except disconnecting from the internet, which I will do from now on
Thanks for the tip

As for nod32, since it doesn' t act as one would expect from what's on their frames, I will take some time this weekend to read toroughly the help file
