1) Does your ISP provide the email service or do you use an in-house email server?

2) Do your "client" desktops connect via router and/or LAN switch?

If you use a standard LAN setup, then your router becomes your in-house LAN DHCP and will automatically assign IP according to what you setup as the IP-Pool. You connect the router to your ISP's modem/router whatever.

Where I work:

If your email server is elsewhere, ISP or corporate IT, then they provide what you need for email. For the company I work for, corporate uses a Novel email server, and anyone in the company can use POP3/SMTP for Outlook or Novel's native GroupWise for Windows email client.
