Hi all,
My comp crashed few weeks ago which gave me a system32/system error meaning i couldn't load xp, and after trying to repair windows using the xp disk and going through the set up with no luck i stumbled across some information on this site for using knoppix.
This was life saving as i got access to all my files!
But i still cannot access my hard drive via any means to load xp so i want to delete the partition or reformat it.

how ever i have tried dos, knoppix, and the xp cd with no luck.
I am thinking of buying a cheap hard drive and installing xp on it so i can use software on my hard drive or take it to a friends house and pop it on their system to sort it there. is this possible, difficult 2 do or is there another solution

Thanks for any advice! cheers 2.gif

Might I suggest, the first thing you do when you put your hard drive in your friends computer is going

My computer > Right click on the drive if it gets recognised > Tools > check Now option > Then click both options and reset

It should look like this:

If you can do it, then on reboot your drive should undergo a consistency check and fix any problems it is having.

IF this does not work, I suggest using the data recovery tool Getdataback (www.runtime.org/gdbnt.zip) It is a great tool for "Recovering Data lost due to: Formatting, fdisk, virus attack, power or software failure. Also recover data when the drive's partition table, boot record, Master File Table or root directory is lost or corrupt"

However, the trial version is very limited. You cannot copy any images or videos to your new hard drive (but you can copy documents) If the old drive of yours was very important you could buy the full version or *cough* "find" a serial for the program.

This is a "lo-fi" version of our main content. To view the full version with more information, formatting and images, please click here.
