Can you recommend a suitable Anti-Virus program for Windows Me? Based on Interceptor's "Antivirus Test 2005" (In the Security Forum) I had hoped to try AntiVir, but I checked the on-line manual and it indicates that the system requirements are Windows XP or better. They have a downloadable version for Millenium, but it will only be supported until June 30, 2007.

Since Microsoft no longer supports ME you are going to find that Anti-Virus and other security apps will no longer continue to support ME as well.

Now would be a good time to move up to XP, or chuck Microsoft entirely, and install Ubuntu 7.04 Beta. It's free and a very easy Linux OS to work with.

I'm unsure that this is entirely correct that because you are you using Win ME, that " Quote: - Antivirus & other security app's will no longer continue to support Win Me as well". There are many millions of computers still running older OS's & you will find that they are still bing supported by access to software updating for the antivirus/security app. of the user's choice. To give one popular example - AVG antivirus works perfectly fine with Win98 & Win ME.
To recommend this as an option would seem appropriate to me...

You're correct, for the time being. AVG Professional Edition still supports Windows ME ... $29.95 per year. What I should have said is that at some point in time Windows ME (and 98 for that matter) will no longer be supported. The fact that Micosoft no longer supports them is the beginning of the end.

Actually, Tecumseh, the free version supports ME also, as well as:

Actually, kennethr ... the whole point is that Windows ME is a dinosaur and not a very good one at that. smile.gif

Sorry, I thought the inquiry was if we knew of an anti-virus program that would work on ME, not whether or not we liked his operating system.

Have nice day, kennethr.

Anyway Diamond Miner..., the help I can suggest to you is that until you have the means to upgrade, (or the wish to...) , I'd happily recommend AVG Free Antivirus for the moment. Then later when things change, you can explore other options if they are available to you...
I hope you continue to enjoy using Win ME...
Bye for now,
Mike
