recently tried to install a Belkin wireless router to my daughter's Comcast Cable Modem. The modem is the type that also controls two phone lines. The modem currently communicates with her pc via USB a/b cable. The router does not support that. I believe the ethernet port on the modem is not working (although Comcast said it tested fine. I spent hours and hours on the phone with Comcast, HP, and Belkin. All say that their equipment is working and tests fine. Still not able to get the router to recognize that it is plugged into the modem. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Steve

Consider upgrading your cable modem. The Motorola Surfboard 5120 cable modem works well with Comcast and connect it with a CAT5 Ethernet cable.

Another thought. If your daughter's computer is not part of a network you really don't need the router. If this is the case, remove the router from the equation and then connect the modem to the computer with the CAT5 cable. So, in review, you would have the Internet cable (from the wall) connected to the modem and the modem connected to the computer.
