I have been trying to get the C: drive formatted. Our other pc is full of popups and programs we did not load, and can't seem to delete. Can someone provide step by step instructions for formatting the hard drive and reinstalling windows xp. I believe it needs a full format as opposed to a quick one.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve, welcome to SAF

I removed the mail address from your post to avoid spambots grabbing it. If someone wants to contact you by this way, it's encrypted on your user's profile.

Instead of reformatting the whole thing, we could try to clean it... if you decide to reformat, be aware that you'll have to reload all the motherboard/chipset drivers to have it working properly. I would suggest you to take a look at this pinned topic and post a HJT log here, as we can take a look at it: http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?showtopic=16053

If you decide to reformat/reinstall, no problems, take a look at the instructions provided here: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm
