I have 2 PCs that i want to use in a wireless home network.

1st PC: Downstairs. Vista. This one has a Linksys wireless router so it can feed the internet connection to 2nd pc. It also has a Linksys wireless adapter.

2nd PC. Upstairs. WinXP. The wireless adapter works fine for accessing the internet.

My problem is i want to make a real wireless network, so each computer can share files, share printers, etc. It's just not working!

Here is what i've done: In Vista, i go to "Network and Sharing Center". Then click "Setup a Connection or Network". Then "Setup a wireless router or access point".

It walks me through a few steps, and then saves the settings onto my Flash Drive.

I take the Flash Drive, and load it onto the XP pc. I get a confirmation message saying that my network is successfully complete.

But in XP when i go to Network Neighborhood, it's not showing the network i made. Similarly, in Vista, it's not showing anything from the XP pc.

I also tried manually setting up a network (not using the Flash Drive method), and i still can't get a break. Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
John

try using identical OS like vista and vista or xp and xp to all your computers you are trying to work on or check the updates on both your OS vista and xp specifically the ones concerns about networking! or if i where in your position i would go for my first suggestion!

So can you, or can you not, access the internet from both computers? If not, that is where you want to start first. Once you establish shared internet connection from the router, then set up your file sharing.
