my computer is very slow takes about 45 mins to turn on. can i download anything to help it, it drives me crazy

What Operating System are you using?
Did you make ANY type of change to the pc prior to the slowness starting?

I am using windows xp and i don't think i did anything prior to the slowness

You could try going to RUN then type msconfig then click on startup and see how many programs are starting with windows. Uncheck the ones you don't need.

I already had them all unticked. Could there be any program i could download?

Sorry for being a bit late with this, but sounds like you have nasties loading that are eating clock cycles. Go to the Malware forum and post a Hijack This log and an expert will be along to scan it.
Another thing you can do just in case, is check whether your hard drive is failing. Go the the manufacturer's website and most have a utility posted that you can run, and it will check whether your drive is damaged.
