Windows 98SE - my simple USB camera used to work on this machine

It used to work either for stills or video

Not been connected for some time

Attempt to use now - the stills function is as before, but switching the manager program to use the video function drops down a small panel containing the words

"Error creating device enumerator."

The camera (in conjunction with its driver CD) is working fine on another computer.

Is there a file belonging to Windows that I should 're-do' ?

Or what ?

Help appreciated.

Hi Phil,

Error creating device enumerator may occur if there is something corrupt on your system or on your registry file.

Try to run a scandisk. Set it not to automatic repair before proceeding. If you find lost clusters, "discard" them instead of "convert to files".

Reboot and see if it works.
It's also possible that reinstalling DirectX9 may work.

If not, it's possible that you'll need to reinstall Windows98SE over the top (same Windows folder). This will overwrite any corrupted files thus preserving your data.

Thanks Chris :-

After a re-installation of 98SE ( and about three more 'restarts' to get by some odd minor error and setting corrections), I'm pleased to say that the simple camera works now as it used to do. ( and the computer 'feels' as though it was generally working a little bit happier all round).

Thanks again --- Phil26
