My mates pc will not work i think we deleted something we shudn't ave done.

The pc was running abit slow so we deleted cookies/files on tools-internet options.I always do this on my pc and never had any problems.

We then restarted pc and hit a wall straight away! The pc is now asking for the authenticity number off the windows 98se disc which he never had.Early last year he had the pc reformatted at a shop, they supplied a copy windows98se disc with a number stuck on front of disc,we tried this number but then it says that it has not been registered and to contact the anti piracy unit, just to add to our problems the shop that reformatted the pc has now closed down.

Anybody got any ideas as to bypassing this problem,or would we do better getting a new windows98se disc, and as we are real pc novices,it is difficult to load a new windows disc?

Any advice wud be appreciated.

Hi,
So the shop shut down...looks like this cowboy has been using pirated software. So lets find a solution to this problem.
We have a couple of options as far as i can see, one would be to go down an illegal path (which we dont do do we), or perhaps obtain a new copy of the software perhaps from stockists online or maybe e-bay (if you like that sort of thing).Im sure 98 wouldnt be too expensive nowdays and id be more than happy to talk you through the whole installation process.
