I have a "curiosity" question ............

Please understand that I am not trying to commit anything "underhanded" ..... I am just curious and wonder how this can happen.

Every now and then I have noticed that people have posted - and even started a new topic - without registering as a proper member. ?????????????

I see stuff where under the person's name, it will say "Unregistered", or for the person's name, it will say "Anonymous".

A while ago I logged out - tried to start a new topic - and also tried to reply to an existing topic. Both times I got an error message saying that I did not have permission to do so-and-so ........ and that I could either register or login if I so chose.

So my "curiosity" question is .......... "How do other people get away with this?"

They were registered when they posted, but we've since pruned away inactive accounts. So, they were 'unregistered' after the fact.

We pruned away many old inactive accounts prior to our forum software upgrade.

Also, we do have one member that registered with the name "Anonymous" that you may have come across. We don't have any members named "Unregistered" however.

Hi Mark and Jim ..... Thanks for your explanations. What you say makes perfect sense (obviously) - I just never thought of it that way because I didn't realize that once your membership was purged, that your name and/or posts would still remain. I guess I thought it logical that everything connected to the deleted membership would just disappear.

I did not mean to imply that there was a member named "Unregistered". I guess I didn't write my thought clearly when I posted. What I meant was that I had noticed that it said "Unregistered" under the person's name (S/S attached).

Or try one of these....

• Change your custom member title to "Unregistered Abuser" and see what the fallout is .....
• Register at a forum with the username "Moderator" or "Administrator" Check the rules beforehand, though
• Use "Top Secret" as your password. If anyone asks you what your password is, say, "Ah! That's top secret"

But them, maybe not .....

Hmmmm ..... on one forum I did use a custom member title of "Unregistered User" and nobody said a thing about it .... I don't use Unity any more but I can definitely think of some custom titles that would attract unwanted attention from the mods and admins there
