Full Version: Cannot Find Server
Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > Operating Systems > Windows Me

have a Dell Dimension with Windows ME. I use IE 6.0 I believe.
Everything has been running fine until yesterday - 4-26-07.
I tried several times to open IE only to get the "Cannot find server" error message.
I tried using several of my "Favorite" links. Some worked (very slowly) but most didn't. (always getting the Cannot Find Server error.
On a couple of occassions I did access IE by using Google. On one such occassion I was able to acess Hot Mail and actually read one email.
When I access IE, I can get access several IE links, albeit very slowly.
Prior to my problem, I hadn't tried anything "fancy" or unusual. I had been surfing for some auto repair information. I am not, incidentally, very "savvy" with regard to computer technicalities.
To submit this problem, I used my "Favorite" list to access your site.
Access was very slow, but it was there, thankfully.
I access the internet using cable/modem via Brighthouse.
I have tried System Restore, using several different restore dates.
I have tried Scan Disc and De Frag.
I have run Spybot, Ad-Aware and AVG 7.5 in that order.
Most times now, I can get a site to come up after several very slow page refresh tries.

I hope I have adequately described my problem. Let me know if not and I appreciate your help

Welcome to Suggest-a-Fix, jcrawford!

There's a good chance, since some links worked, that there were server problems from your ISP. Is it working better today?

Belatedly, my problem is solved.
I needed a nw modem which Brighthouse has provided.
All is well.
Thanks.
