I have a tutorial online to shows step-by-step how to setup Avira's AntiVir for maximum protection, icluding the heuristics scanner to detect new viruses.

I have used these settings of 7+ years on serval computers and never gotten a virus. These setting are extreme and aggressive.

I don't think I've used Avira AntiVir as long has you have, but my settings are the same and I, also, never have had a virus.

I use Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium (not free) as it has email protection (MailGuard) and it is worth the license. It caught a Trojan in an email attachment yesterday.

It's a totally outstanding anti-virus program.
