I am signed up for 7168kbps downstream and 896kpbs upstream (internet-desktop)

7168kpbs means 7mbps right? Which if you sounded it out; 7megabyte per second

Does that mean that IF things worked out right I could be downloading 6000/kbps right? Well my internet provider said theres no website that supports over 2mb/sec, thus 2000. Some downloads I get only say 500/kbps but maybe I'm mis calculating it.

Either way my Laptop's wireless icon says 54mbps, forgive this stupid question but thats better than 7mbps right? Which means my wireless connection is better than my regular download speed for my desktop?

And the bottom line here, I was transferring a 2gig folder from Desktop to Laptop but took about 20min, is that about right?

I'm just trying to make sense of all this hehe

No, your comparing bits with bytes. A byte is 8 bits, so you have to divide the number by 8.
Also forget that you will never reach maximum speed, no matter how hard you try.
