I had to format my hard drive recently but recovered a lot of my photo's first. Now when I try to open some of them it says file corrupt. They are all in jpeg format is there anyway to recover them. One program I tried said "Image header corrupted (error 1004)" I'm not sure what this means but I hope someone out there will.I hope someone can help.

Since some of these files look corrupted, you could try converting them with an image converter downloaded from this link. or this one. . I just googled your problem, hope your problem is resolved. Do let us know thumb up.gif

Anyone that thinks they're going to be able to somehow "rebuild" a graphic/ image file after a format is living in a dream world. The Media Resizer application can do nothing with a file that is corrupt or partially lost. You have to have a good file to begin with for that application to work. As far as the file recovery application goes, any such utility is limited in what it can depending on how much the user has used their PC since the data loss. Everytime you use that computer, it invokes a read & write operation on the disks thus reducing your chances of successful file recovery.

At this point, I'd say those pictures are toast - just chalk up your losses and move on.

Hi Phoenix,

You are right when you say you can kiss your data goodbye once you have formated your drive but here Manshead says

to my understanding what he means is he recovered them before doing the format.

Though I'm not a computer wiz, In my professional career spreading over 2 decades as an architect, I have faced massive data corruptions. While I've been lucky to be able to slavage most of my data but there have been instances when I've had to kiss them goodbye AND at times I've been able to do partial recovery on individual files resulting in recovery of useful portions from the damaged files many of them image and CAD files.

Sometimes when the lost data is not important, perhaps its best to chalk up the losses and move up, but to a person who has sweated to build up the data and the images will surely not stop trying recovering as much lost ground as possible while moving on....

You're probably right. His choice of words was a bit confusing to me and you probably have the better half of that translation.
