Full Version: Vista / Xp Networking Problem
Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > General Computing > PC Networking and Lan Support
papa
I have an XP computer and 2 Vista computers. Also, I have a DI-624 router. This was used to successfully network the XP with a Win98 computer (now gone).

When I installed the Vistas (and connected the Ethernet cables to the router), the Vistas will not "see" the XP. However, the XP will "see" the Vistas and I can access the Vista files and folders from the XP (but not from the root…file sharing has to be “folder specific”). Strangely, on the Vistas, when I click “View full map” in the Network and Sharing Center, the XP computer does show, but it will not show the XP in the normal Network view mode. Consequently, I cannot access the XP from the Vistas. I do not have any virus protection program on any of the computers.

I have the settings on the Vista set to "Private" network and I have experimented with the Firewall on/off on the Vistas and the XP. Currently they are all back on, because there was no difference either way. File sharing is enabled on all computers and I am set as the Administrator (nobody uses these computers anyway, except my wife and myself).

I’ve searched the net and have found numerous ideas and suggestions, but none work. There’s got to be a fix to this situation.

Anybody have another suggestion? Who can be the first to resolve this issue?

Thanks.

Hi papa, hello.gif Welcome to SAF

Sorry, no one had any suggestion for you, I'm bumping it up, and maybe someone might see it, and maybe have some ideas.
