I want to connect two computers with two modems in my house. Can I do it?

Hi fan32 , welcome to SAF

As long as you have two lines, or you don't use them both at the same time on a single line, no problems. Just a question... why do you want to use two modems ? The better thing is to set a home network and share the internet connection between both systems using one modem (one line and one ISP).

I want to use two computers on single line, because these computers are far apart and it is not feasible to
use wired or wireless networking. My question is --- can i connect two modems to connect two computer with
only one line?

No. The only way to achieve this (with some limitations, but it works to me) is to have one system plugged to the broadband modem and the other one using the built-in dial-up modem through the broadband splitter filter. The problem is that you'll have speed broadband connection on one and a dialed (slow) connection which will use the voice band of your line on the other. Not very practical.

Unfortunately, there are no miracles. You'll need to cable both systems (even using a repeater if the cable lenght is above 30 meters), or go to wireless (eventually using directional antennas if really too far away one from the other), or buy a second phone line.

On rural areas, a long distance wireless may work though:

You can also have a cheap wireless network up to 1 mile range in open field:

My thoughts:

If you really want to link two computers using modems it's possible but it's a clumsy hack and Windows for home won't support it. Don't go there.

For two computers sharing one line cheap "privicy adapters" are available to prevent one computer going online while the other is connected or the phone is in use.

Never tried it but "HomePNA" kit might be what you want, just to clarify: homePNA is a bit like wireless but instead of broadcasting a signal it puts the signal on existing phone wiring at frequencies above those used by broadband.
