Greetings biggrin.gif

I'm banghead.gif trying to access the web config for my modem. The model is Thomson SpeedTouch 330 and i'm quite sure the default address is supposed to be 10.0.0.138. I can't access this address though no matter how hard i try, i can't configure the subnet mask or default gateway manually either because they are not options on the TCP/IP config for the connection.

My question basically is (if no one knows how to access the web config on the modem), how can i forward ports to this model of modem? Anyone? I've been trying now for 48 hours!!

Try this:

...330: http://www.speedtouch.net.nz/st330.htm

Ever the crusader Chris biggrin.gif I seriously like your style man. Sadly this time it's fallen short. I contacted Thomson already and they just told me that I'd have to talk my ISP around to giving out there name server address. I was kinda wondering if anyone knew a hack/patch which would help me out.

A funny story though:

I rang Tiscali Broadband (my ISP) and acted dumb at first, saying i just wanted to VoIP, that didn't work so i told them i actually wanted to set up a home network and needed to allocate an address to my computer so that IP conflicts did not ensue due to everyone turning computers on at different times; they told me to connect to msn, then connect to my other computers!!! THE CHEEK OF IT!!! So, I came clean about my knowledge and prowess and how i already tried to assign myself a static IP and failed. I told them i thought their suggestion was the most pathetically disgusting piece of advice i had ever heard in all my years of dealing with people who sit and watch instructions come up on a database and told him that if his "Administrator" did not give him a bloody good reason as to why i can't port forward, that i would be sacking them as an ISP.

He told me i could purchase a router for £49.95. I hung up.

*cough* i'm not going to deny, this post is half in hope that someone knows a patch/hack and half in the hope that some folk, who are considering ADSL Tiscali, read it and think, "Craaaaap, no port forwarding?? That means i can't P2P or Torrent".

You need the ISP main DNS server addresses, and they MUST provide them to you. I have a SpeedTouch Pro and my Brazilian ISP (Speedy-Telefonica) caused some difficulties to give-me the addresses, but they finally give them.

I don't think there is a "hack" for this, and even if it exists, we can not discuss it here as per our rules and guidelines. You may try to "Google" the answers by yourself, at your own risks, I'm affraid. smile.gif

Ah yes, hack... bit of a 'naughty word' Apologies. I didn't make the comment in any illegal sense but merely the old school sense of bypassing something.

Afterall, can it ever actually be illegal to hack your own computer?? biggrin.gif

*mental note to self* no more usage of the word hack.

Thank you very much once again, you really are a beacon in the darkness. I've just sat and discussed with my partner about having a jolly good shout at tiscali because as i said to her, "They are obliged to provide me with their DNS address". You have just confirmed that for me. Thank you once again.

ipconfig should divulge the gateway and dns servers. as for a static ip it's probably not possible without payment to the isp. however a router should provide access for multiple computers, allow static ip's and the rest of your requirements on the lan.

Something doesn't read right here....

Going by the link that's a USB modem, in which case port forwarding probably isn't relevant to you. At least not for getting one computer online.

There's unlikely to be a web configuration screen because a USB modem is configured by the computer it's attached to. A small number of "modems" have web configuration but those that do are usually really routers operating in "modem mode"

There's unlikely to be anything on port-forwarding because it's a direct connection so all ports should be accessable by the PC anyway. Port forwarding applies to routers mainly. If ports are blocked it's probably because of a firewall.

If you have one computer with a USB modem and you want to share the connection you could use Microsoft internet connection sharing ... well you could but I wouldn't recommend it. I would strongly recommend getting a DSL router. Seriously.

Regarding static vs dynamic IP I'd recomend a service called dyndns.com, or one of the many others. It gets you a name that always resolves to your current IP so you can be reached even if your IP moves.
