Hello, Ironbender posted a new update for Java on January 15. I am running WindowsXP SP2 and I am not sure which download applies to me. In my list in my control panel I have "J2SE Runtime Enviroment 5.0 Update 10. My question is, does "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 6" apply to me and should I download it. An answer to my question would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi, It worked for me. I haven't had a problem with it. It does have a running process but i have 60 more sooooo. I had the same version and also the earlier version on my add remove window as you.
Good luck either way you go. I just know there are so many updates if one gets behind they lose perforance, might apply here.

Go for it.

I noticed that if you click the Java Update in the version 5.0_10, it updates to 5.0_11 instead of version 6.0_1... this is because Win98 and WinME must stay with version 5. Version 6 applies for Win2k, XP and higher, so you can install Java JRE version 6 on your XP SP2 with no problems.
Just uninstall any previous Java versions from your control panel, add-remove programs afterward.

Hi Ironbender, I sincerly thank for replying to my post and what was so important to me is that you explained it so well. I feel very safe now downloading "Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE) 6". It is very reassuring to know that a voice of knowledge can help an inexperienced person out when needed. Thank you again.
Warmest regards
