Hey All,
I'm running 98se. I just got down cleaning up some programs that I don't use any more. I "deleted" the entire program call "Adobe Photoshop 5.5. After I did that, I went to open some photo's (jpegs, bitmaps) and now I can't open any of them.
I would like to open them up with "Microsoft Photo Editor.
Any help ??

Get a 'real' image viewer.... the free
IrfanView. It'll handle just about all your images, video and audio files. You can set the associations during the install.
BTW- did you simply delete the folder when you removed Photoshop, or did you uninstall it? A program as big as this should never be deleted, as it will leave all the associations and a bunch of other stuff behind that will cause a problem such as this.

Thanks all for your help. I just re-installed "Adobe Photoshop 5.5". This seems to work. But thanks all who made the above suggestions.

Hopefully this will work for you dr911.
For 98SE
Associate a File Extension with a File Type
1. In Windows Explorer or My Computer, locate the file for which you want to create a file association.
2. Right-click the file, and then click Open With. If Open With is not an option, hold down the SHIFT key while right-clicking the file.
Open With should now be an option.
3. In the Open With dialog box, select the program that you want to use to open the file.
4. Click to select the Always use this program to open these files check box to make this the default program to open files with the same file-name extension.
5. Click OK.

You beat me to it, Marcia. Seeing that the OS is Win98, it is necessary to hold the Shift key while right-clicking.

Yes it was dr911, sorry I didn't think about you being on 98SE, but glad you you were able to get your pictures back.
If you deside to uninstall Adobe Photoshop again, give Marcia's answer a try.
