I have a Cable TV/Internet Access package that includes 30 music channels. I can pipe the music to the TV or a stereo via the standard audio jacks. The cable modem is by Next Level Communications (Motorola).

I would like to feed the music to my PC and capture it using Windows Media Player. The PC is a Dell 4600 with a standard Creative SB Live Series sound card.

Is there a simple solution?

Thanks,

Welcome to our forum, ranger!

I have a similar setup, only I have the line-level outputs of my receiver going into the line input of my sound card. That way, anything that plays on the receiver can be recorded on the PC.... AM-FM, TV, DVD, VHS, Casettes, Phono records, reel-to-reel tapes.

I use Total Recorder to capture the audio to .mp3 files. It can even be scheduled to record when I'm away. I'm not familiar with WMP as I don't care much for it, and I was unaware that it had the capability to record an input.

More detail on my question:

The cable modem has a AC3 Digital Dolby output jack as well as RCA jacks. Is that useful for connecting to the sound card?
The sound card has a single line-in jack. Can you tell me what kind of cable I need to ask for when I visit Radio Shack?

Thanks again,

Ranger

I'm not familiar with that modem or service, but from the RCA jacks to the line input on a sound card would require a cable such as this one. I would think Radio Shack would have something similar.
