Gee how much did you read. I get the paid version myself. And it has more data. But everyone is allow an opinion. See below dog!!! Maybe you could explain to us just what is security, layered security and even post your security that you run with a screen shot like mine here. Hey I was a newbie once to. And have an attitude to learn more. So help out and offer facts not opinions would be my suggestion to anyone posting in this topic area!

Hey W.W. I agree with ya. I didn't post the paid for version for that reason and the fact it come to my e-mail which would be cheating Fred whom I respect. But even if I did post it (paid for version) someone whould have some BLANK remark. A wise man once said, "you can please some of the people some of the time etc., etc. dog isn't one of them, I guess.

Also dog I use these utilities. Besides Trend Micro Internet Security 2006, the little bug catcher Super Anti Spyware and have never had a problem running them together. This is layared security in my book. If you can respond in a positiove way or add to this tread please do. A good night to all.
Click to view attachment Oh yes if you have trouble seeing these two screen shots just left click them to enlarge them as I resized them down.

Thanks guys, after going back to reading it I see there was some security on there. skysoldier, I know a little about security, never had any spyware. I can tell by looking at the programs you have that you use IE, I use Opera & FF. I don't need all that crap you have. I removed Spy Sweeper and spybot months ago. Spy Sweeper slowed my start up and shutdown to much. Spybot is just plain junk . I use at present SuperAntiSpyware , BOClean,
spywareblaster, Ad-aware, I use Nod32, and have been fooling around with Spyware terminator . I don't like having more than one program protecting me in real time. In other words I see you have SS, CounterSpy, and
SuperAntiSpyware, I hope you don't have all 3 running at the same time. Thanks again skysoilder.

I strongly disagree with you. Spybot S&D is a good spyware catcher and may flag some baddies which are not always detected by ad-aware (and vice-versa). I use it for years now along with ad-aware SE and its ability to block access to bad content on websites is effective. The fact you are using Opera and Firefox may reduce the risks of browser hijacking but you are not really safe from some threats. Using a lot of protection softwares may not provide the best protection, worse, it may give you a false security feeling, just like a guy walking in the night with a firearm. If he is not smart enough to avoid some bad places and not skilled enough to use his weapon, he may still be robbed or end 6 feet under the ground.
I only use free programs, such as AVG a/v, ZoneAlarm firewall, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and DiamondCS Regprot, along wit Spybot resident protection. Ad-Aware SE and AVG Anti-Spyware only if something suspicious. And CrazyBrowser, which uses the IE engine but never crashed. Never been infected for the last three to four years.
Most baddies today comes within malicious scripts embedded in mail messages, even without attachments, p2p files, instant messaging links and on some legitimate (mostly promotional) Gaming or video CDs so your Opera or FF browser has no effects on this.

Thanks for your view Chris, I use to use both the free and paid (desktop/laptop) version of
ZoneAlarm & pro. And there was some problems with both during a period back in the past. So I dropped both as with most Norton products.
I have the free AVG Anti Spyweare 7.5 in the task bar. Also free SUPER Anti Spyware (the bug icon) in the task bar. Spysweeper, Trend Mirco Internet Security 2006 comes with any new machine bought at Best Buy! I have Counter Spy from a long while ago. The last three are shown in the task bar! I use Web Roots Window washer to clean up as well as MRU Blaster and DustbusterXP.
The second screen shot agrees with your opinion but might go a bit more.
No Chris I don't feel secure or safe. Thats why I bother to update all these utilities and run them several times a week, or others bi weekly.
As for my PC tuning tool. I am a combat veteran that sees the worst before the good. (comes from walking point in the Nam) I am in tune brother. I trust the Lord, and feel i am still a warrior with His approval. And I am a very good shooter even at 60 +.
If your response was because I noticed dog had 2 posts and called me a spammer to boot, so I said newbie. You have a better name for a new person at any board? I didn't insult him. I questioned him. As I did with this response to you.
I try to answer fully and completely without becoming rash or insulting. And would like the same. Is that a problem? Or should I have just allowed it to stay with dogs post and not answered?.
I walk and honorable life and have a code of conduct. Do I need to change that to stay here with the friends I have made these past six months?
And I always put in the fact that it is just IMHO which neither of you have done.

And by the way I don't use Opera period. And F.F. very little mostly to see if there are updates or to go to my Broadband home page. As I have IE 7.0 set to yahoo. I use M$ Windoze products and haven't had to much of a problem doing so. IE 7.0 was a rare one and most people who tried it had some problems.
Better yet from now on I will only post in the Members Lounge seeing I haven't the skill or knowledge to even post a newsletter or run the proper security utilies! Thanks for pointing these weekness out to me..
Ironbender
Hey Michael, stay cool. smile.gif
My answer was to dog's post, not yours and it's also my personal opinion, as stated on my post: "I strongly disagree with you", and answering to what I quoted. We don't want to start any polemic here about other things than the security merits of the programs used, just to stay on the topic. Anyone is free to use whatever he wants though.

Chris cheers 2.gif

Thanks for the above dog. But truth is yes I do run all at once without a problem the key I believe is Trend Micro as the Firewall/anti virus.
I think other utilities are worthless to me but don't claim they are crap as I am not qualified to do so. Seem others deem them selfs good enough to rate products by taste alone.
I always remember that not only you or I and Ironbender are reading these posts but other drop ins and some if not most users are clueless to security from what I have read. So a real newbie would pick up from you and Chris's post some personnel preferences not actual facts!
I try to keep these in mind . But seeing I plan on only posting in the Members Lounge from now on that won't mean much to me anylonger. But others might be wise to heed it.
dog, in no way take this as an insult. I forgot to Click to view attachment and do so now.
Do drop in the members lounge topic area. All is cool.
skysoldier
Cool Chris. but I will refrain from posting newsletters or any wheres else (unless I have a question and need help) I enjoy the Members Lounge and will stay they. The worst that can happen there is I might get Marcia or Lorraine a bit upset with me ... laugh.gif Alls cool.
We can agree to disagree, right?

dog
First off I said spam because I looked in a security thread and saw a newsletter posted, it wasn't a security newsletter. I also see a Computer Tech & Other News with newsletters posted in there by skysoldier .I'm sorry if I offended anyone. When it comes to spybot, junk was the wrong word to use, I should have said it never catches anything on my machine and mostly protects IE. I rather have spywareblaster, I know it protects FF. Everybody has their own way to protect their machines, I like one program protecting in real time and use the others to scan, but that's me. I don't like anything slowing down my machine. I have had good luck using my spyware programs this way, I've had this computer 4 years and never had a problem, never a blue screen or error. I'm from the old school, I don't use a registry cleaner, my machine is still fast and I have never had a error, so the myth can be answered here, a registry cleaner just saves you time, doesn't speed up your machine. I do clean the registry, but by hand after uninstalling a program. Again, that's my way. Everyone has their own way of doing things. Just one thing before I go, skysoldier don't take everything to heart. everyone has different views on certain things and the way they do things. Again, if I insulted you , I'm sorry. flower.gif
