Whatever happened to the SAF linkback banners and buttons that Pete Senarighi approved of way back in the days when SAF was new? Most of the linked-to images in this old thread are gone. I'm still maintaining and displaying one of the banners at the bottom of this page. Are the others still viable and accessible somewhere at the SAF server, or had they all been lost during the latest board upgrade?

It would be really nice to have those linkback banners and buttons available once more, so that people with websites can display them.
phzzz
I'd forgotten to mention that I'm also displaying a banner here as well.
It would be nice to have more of a choice though. The banner I'm currently using here is a bit too 'stark' for that page's colors/layout, although it goes well at the bottom of this page.

Hi Nunzio390,

The members probably removed them, or they got moved on their computer.
I had one on my Quick Launch, and when I updated to IE 7, I lost it, and not sure who made it, I think it was Wes. Have tried to see if I can find it on my computer, but haven't found it Yet. I'm sure I saved it some place.

Hi Tom,

The original topics that contained the images seems to have been pruned. I'll see what I can do in recovering them and fixing the links.

I'll update when I know for sure..

Cheers biggrin.gif
Surfer
if i remember right several peeps made them and all mods and admins were involved in the decision. that's the way it was back in the day.
Mark
I've found an old backup, and fixed the ones contained in that topic. I'm not sure where they were linked from, but if you give me the old links, I'll upload them using the old directory structure so they work again.

Hey Mark,
Hmmmm... I dunno if I still maintain the old links but I'll check and see. Twas a long long time ago. smile.gif

Hey Surfer,
Back in the day... all mods and admins sure were involved in the decisions, yep. That was the way it used to be.

Really good to see both you guys again! thumb up.gif
Take care,

Woops! Didn't mean to leave you out, Lorraine. Thanks for your input too (although we never met) smile.gif

OK. I found one banner (created by Wes awhile back)...

And 2 Logos...

I'll see if I can track down more hiding inside my HD and upload them as well.
But there were a hell of a lot more banners if I recall correctly.

Tom

Here are 2 more banners. I have no idea who created them though. eek2.gif

I'll try to dig up more and upload them.

And many of them still here today! Good to see you, Tom. It has been a lo-o-o-ong time.

Good to see you again, Jimbo! Pooh Bear too! I missed all you guys at SAF. Good memories here.

Lorraine... you were very helpful, especially now that you've uploaded/attached those buttons.

Mark...

Now that you've restored the images at SAF I'll go ahead and create a page with instructions/ linkback code for inserting each one in a web page. I'll post back here with the link to the page when done. In the meantime, perhaps you can locate other threads where other buttons/banners were included, and restore them too.
phzzz
OK. Here it is...

Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners

Mark, Wes, Jimbo, Lorraine, etc...

Let me know if you locate other images hosted at SAF that I can add to that page.

Take care,
Tom

phzzz
Mark...

Please upload these 2 to the images subdirectory at SAF so that I can also include them at the Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners page...

Above image is temporarily located at http://nunzioweb.com/saf/new_saf_ad.gif

I'd rather have them located/referenced at SAF to prevent people from hot-linking to the images at my site. I'll remove those images from my server once they are at SAF.

Thanks,
Tom

Jim...

The images that Mark restored in this old thread evidently can not be displayed on a web page without showing a 'broken' image, although they will display when referencing them directly. That of course defeats the whole purpose.

Evidently, images that are post attachments located in the www.suggestafix.com/uploads directory do not have the same 'hot-linking' permissions as do the images located in the www.suggestafix.com/images subdirectory at SAF. For instance, the image located at http://www.suggestafix.com/uploads/post-46-1042509348.gif displays fine when clicked on directly, but will not on the Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners page I created if referencing the /uploads directory at SAF, nor will it if referenced that way on any other web page. Look at the image that is 4th down on the Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners page. It is currently a 'broken' image. So, can you or Mark or another admin make copies of banner and/or button images that are post attachments located in the www.suggestafix.com/uploads directory and place them into the www.suggestafix.com/images subdirectory at SAF? Then we can link to the images in that directory in code on a web page with no probs.

As of now, several copies of post attachment images located in the /uploads directory at SAF are already in place in the /images subdirectory at SAF and are displaying fine in coding within a web page. Others that need to be copied to the www.suggestafix.com/images directory include these:

http://www.suggestafix.com/uploads/post-46-1042509348.gif
http://www.suggestafix.com/uploads/post-46-1042504082.gif

There may be more but I haven't discovered any yet.

*Note: you can rename post-46-1042509348.gif and post-46-1042504082.gif to something more appropriate before copying them into the /images subdirectory.

Here's one more button..

phzzz
Thanks Lorraine, and I'll reference it ASAP, but not until a copy is first uploaded to the www.suggestafix.com/images subdirectory. You see, the same problem exists as I mentioned above with the button you just attached. It's address is http://www.suggestafix.com/uploads/post-3388-1167958766.jpg

So, it, as well as the other smaller buttons you attached to your prior post, all exist in the www.suggestafix.com/uploads directory and copies of each need to be uploaded to the www.suggestafix.com/images subdirectory. Once that's done, I'll reference the images in that directory and add everything to the Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners page.
LF from MC
Tom, does this help any??

I downloaded it from Photobucket.

phzzz
OK. Thanks, Jim. Linkback page has been updated...

Linking back to Suggest A Fix using buttons and banners

Maybe reference that page somewhere at the forum?
That way, forum members/visitors can easily access it.
I plan on keeping that page intact and available in the future.
I'll also update it as more logos/buttons/banners become available.

[OFF TOPIC BUT OF INTEREST TO THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF SAF]

Hey guys...

Regardless of the fact that other dates are indicated as our join dates for SAF, I've managed to dig up an old page listing the site admins, mods and forum staff from way back, indicating our real start/join dates at SAF.

Take a look at this!

Pretty cool, eh?

That old page shows exactly when SAF first went public, and if you click on each of our images there, the true join dates are listed as well in our old profiles. smile.gif

Of course I was Phzzz at that time and not Nunzio390, Mark was then called Stargazer, Wes was Surfer then, Pete is still Compguy Pete, Sean is still smurfy, Ed is still HKed (but was a mod back then), Jimbo is still jimholly, Paul started modding as 'Shadowhawke' and then changed to and is still Nightshade, Sam is still LinuxSam, Moon is still Moon, Steve is still Steve R Jones, and lovely Dash is still Dashwood95 (she was a mod back then and later became admin). thumb up.gif

Too bad about Jimmy Turpin (Jaturp). His recent passing really hit me hard. sad.gif
He was a great guy. He and Ricky Turpin (RickyT) used to send me all kinds of stuff from Louisiana.

Me too sad.gif

The SAF beginning date is pretty cool Tom thumb up.gif Thanks for sharing it with us. Sometimes, it's nice to look into the past, to see how things were. smile.gif

jim, liked the first one. How time makes change. Sorry about the lost every passing is a sad affair.
with just over 500+ post and only a short time here I didn't want to be reminded how much I missed in the years past before I hooked up to a computer fourm. But do indeed thank each of you and past admin/mods for being there for so many others. Job well done guys.

Yes the loss of someone is always a sad affair. JT was a very special person that is missed by many and taken from us way to soon. (smiley with US flag waving here...as he always liked to have)

Look at the positive, you have hooked up with some now. It's always nice to see how things change, grow, and develop. It was nice to see that page...there are some people there that were gone when I joined. There's the one mod that got me to join here when I did...Kimmygem. I used to mod at her graphics board. I miss her being around.

There have been many wonderful mods and admins here at SAF that have shaped and molded the board. There are a number of them that have come and gone after the page Tom has linked here.

cheers 2.gif Here's to SAF..admins, mods, members....the best computer tech board on the web, but then I am biased. biggrin.gif

I feel that I have found a place that is special, with plenty of new arrivals but it is the ones that keep coming back that make it like home and a bigger family. Not only the mods/admin but the members who make it that way for me. Thanks to each of you!
P,S. marcia, they took my offer in Topeka. Now if the VA comes through I can call the movers......... thumb up.gif

Tom, since you brought it to my attention, I'm going to bump it and give you this:

phzzz
Aha! Another example of smurfy's incredible sleuthing skills when utilizing the Wayback Machine!! laugh.gif

Sean... based on that old archived thread that you dug up, I see that I was offering 'full credit' to any board member who's banner was accepted and used at that time. I can't really do that now, since I don't know where many of the banners/buttons on the current linkback page originated from. But I was thinking... there is one more banner in that old archived thread, where the graphic is still available... the entry posted there by Dana (Gnaw) so so long ago. Although Dana is no longer around, I think I might add it to the current linkback page as another option.

Take care,
Tom
