I have moved a set of games from a Zip disk to the C drive. Now when I try to run the games from the C drive, I get the error of a missing DLL file. Going back to the Zip drive and using the Search feature, I can find the missing DLL and moved it to the Desktop. How to I get the file properly installed so that the games will run from the C drive. I suspect that I have to move the DLL file in question to some specific file or folder in order for the computer to use it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Rodney PS the games run fine if I run them from the Zip Drive.

If you can see the exact location of the folder that contains the .dll file on the zip drive, I suspect you have the exact folder on the C drive. Merely "copy" the file on your zip drive (right click on it, and select copy), and then browse on your C drive for the same folder , right click on it and select paste. Hope this helps!

Normally a program uses .dlls from the System, System32 or the program's installation folder. If the .dll is in the folder with the program executable, then it should run. Also, sometimes it's necessary to 'register' the .dll for it to be found by the program. This is done by typing in the Run window, for a file named gaming.dll in the System folder:

regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system\gaming.dll

Do this for each .dll. If it doesn't need it, it won't hurt a thing. Of course, the best way to get the game going is to install it on the machine. If there's settings and saved data in the folder you copied, just install the game into the same folder, and the data should still be fine.
