Full Version: How To Resize The Kb Size Of Images With Irfanview

I've gone through the forums and found some very good messages and explanations as to how resize image pixel size with Irfanview so that they can be posted on web pages which put restrictive limits on image size. However, what I've run into and need help on is a step beyond pixel size.

Let me use an example: Got a pic that originally was approx 2000 pixels. The web page size limit is 640x640 and 100KB. I quickly got the pic down to 600x600 pixels using Irfanview. The storage size of the pic was 900kb.

where do I go from here? Just keep going on down in pixel size? What does that do to quality?

Is there a way to keep a given pixel size but get the storage size(kb) on down ?

Amateur and old geezer here so don't beat me up too bad

rbig, what is the extension of that file? I am going to bet it is NOT .jpg. If it is not, change from whatever it is and make it a .jpg file and see if that will not reduce it.

Welcome to SAF, rbig!

If the file isn't a .jpg, you can resave it as a .jpg in Irfan. Also, while the Save dialog box is open, you'll see a selection in the bottom center that you can check for additonal options, unless you have the latest version of Irfan, which should already have the Image quality window opened. That window will have an adjustment to reduce the pixels. Just set the slider down around 65 or 75% and the image should save at a usable size.

Good info. Thanks a bunch. I'll run try it. I didn't pay attention to which file extension it saved as. As stated though, probably not as a .jpg. I'll give it another whirl and see if that doesn't do it.

MicroSoft has a right click image resizer which I point out as it is small and in the right clicker. Try it also it is a samll install from M$.
