Hi everybody,
I thought that it would be fun to share how we decided on our usernames. I notice that some of us use our names and some of us of do not. Please everybody join in. You can put as much or as little as you want, but please let's all join in. I'll start by telling how I came to decide on my username. I am a member of two other computer forums. On one them I am ComputerLady. I was going to call myself GeorgiaLady on this one but I'm GeorgiaLady on another site, so that was out. I decided to call myself by my nickname of Jeannie for SAF since my nickname is easy for me to remember (naturally) and it's what I go by normally. Who's next?

My Motorcycle Club's nickname is
Ferro, which anybody knows, means
Iron in English.
I am registered as Ironbender on several places.

Hey Dino, why don't you use Dino as your avatar ?

Do you want the short version or the long version......Once upon a time in a land far far away......ok...that will take too long. I actually had a different user name when I first came to SAF years ago. Eventually just dropped it and used my real name. Later, PCRigger (Rob) nicknamed me Rosegirl because I used different roses as an avatar. I adopted that as a user name I use at other boards now. Thanks Rob!!

Well, I think I always used LF from MC..... LF = name & MC = Town, now when I join a Forum, it's just plain Lorraine.
Marcia, you had another username, that I liked a lot....Red ------

skysoldier
Oct 26 2006, 04:03 AM
skysoldier as i was one long ago. Also served as a Parachute Rigger before going grunt in the Nam.
So Marcia, this PCRigger (ROB) makes me wonder if he too was one red hat?
Jeannie, very nice idea for a post. Was it your own or Lil Bits idea? lol
I could if I had a Browse Button post the Riggers Red hat or my Airborne Unit or even a few pixs from the Nam... BUT!

Mine is simply a nickname my brother once came out with on the spur of the moment.
It made me laugh, so decided it would make a good screen name.
It's enough like my real name, yet different enough to provide anonymity

My avatar is a scanned section of a Celtic CD I have with the screen name superimposed onto it.

Hi everybody!
oldbob, I don't have light brown hair but I do have medium brown hair with a little gray and I have blue eyes. skysoldier, I got the idea for the post when Lorraine started her thread called "Where do you live?"
I'm glad that everybody likes this thread. I do too if I may say so (since I started it). I think that it's interesting. For instance I had thought that Chris worked with iron and that is why he chose the screen name Ironbender.

The only iron I work with is my 23 years old motorcycle...
I forgot to say that I am known as "Ferro" (Iron), because I ever say "Ooooooh Ferro !" (something like the Lone Ranger's "Hi-Yo, Silver!") when I arrive somewhere with it.
Interceptor
Oct 26 2006, 12:12 PM
I've had the username "Interceptor" since '98. It initially was "The Great Red Shark", named after a car depicted in the Hunter S. Thompson novel "Fear and Loathing On the Campaign Trail", but was too long. Interceptor came to me shortly after I was pulled over on my (late) Harley ('75 Superglide) just after crossing the PA state line. On the side of this nasty, front-end jumping, ground trembling, obviously severely cammed and built '70 Challenger was a decal showing "
Pennsylvania State Police-Interceptor". Hmph...I asked the trooper what the car had in it and his response was "None of your *bleeping* business". Then he laid a patch a ways down the highway and took off. Bit of a yutz he was, but that car was pretty mean.
Interceptor--accept no substitutes. I am the original.

Dashwood95 has been my name since 1995. It is the surname of the family in 1995's Sense and Sensibility because I fell in love with that movie.
I do have one alterego that I began using on my online games, but it really was just something I heard that I liked. Serafina.

ranchhand
Oct 27 2006, 07:08 PM
I use the name ranchhand because my dad was rancher in the Bitterroot mountains of central Idaho. I rode, had my own .22 rifle at age 9, and loved my horse and dog dearly. Went to a one-room school house, Dagget Creek Elementary, grades 1-8. Older kids helped teach the younger ones. It's gone now, along with most of the ranches. Taxes went so high the ranchers couldn't afford to keep their land, and it ended up in the pockets of developers. So goes this country, also. I kept the name even though I live in Chicago area. Long, mostly unpleasant story how I ended up here, won't bore you with it now.

Chris, a ranchhand is a helper on a ranch, and he was a helper on his dad's ranch. Well, I think that's why he used ranchhand as a username.

Well, my original username when i started with this whole web thing (eons ago) was bobcat0013 (bobcat, bobcat13, and bobcat013 were all taken in hotmail at the time), as bobcat was my nickname in high school and 13 is my birthdate. That email account got spammed to heck, so I opened a new one with the name of the king of dragons, Bahamut.
I use the smae name for everything. It turns up most everything in Google.

My wee little sis (ha..she's now 24!) went by sugibugi after the nickname she gave her grossly overweight sheltie.
Outback Annie
Dec 19 2006, 09:34 PM
Just tripped over this topic and I find it really interesting to see how people got their user names so I thought I'd add my story here too.

My real name is Ann and I was born in the city of Sydney, Australia but as soon as I was old enough I went to live in the country, in the mountains and eventually I lived in the Australian Outback. After that I lived on a remote Island in Papua New Guinea, had an isolated lifestyle sailing on boats then lived in an isolated town in the Mojave Desert where I got a job as a morning radio talk show host. I was called Outback Annie on air because of my having lived in so many Outback type lifestyles. The name Outback Annie has just stuck with me for many, many years so I use it as my internet name.
Cheers all

Hi Lorraine,
Yes I had my time in fame on the air doing morning radio and that's how my nickname really stuck but you can always call me Annie for short.
Do you ever have any contact with anyone from the AUS forum? I lost touch with everyone when I went on the road again.
Nice to see your name in here when I come in on the rare occasions I find time to spend on the computer.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and a Very Happy New Year Lorraine.
Cheers from Ann

How did I Pick my user name... hmmmm... Actually, I was listening to my husband rattling around in the kitchen one night and he kept muttering "no, no, bad girl" under his breath and I assumed he was talking to the puppy. As it turns out he was muttering at ME, for the lack of cookies and or sweets to snack on, so I thought what the heck, sounds like me...

My user name came about easily enough. I've had a few gaming names, but started out with Silver Scorpion, or Black Scorpion...and those came about because I'm a Scorpio birth-sign...

So now I just use Scorpion, or am known as Scorp to gaming buddies, and sign posts the same usually

I had a couple of angelfishes in my aquarium... pretty ones..... so when I entered the www I used angelfish as my user name.... a few years later one of them died then one day the other one died.... soon my Internet service provider went bankrupt and wound up business... I switched to a new ISP... all was going well but about a week later my entire setup blew up in smoke due a massive 33Kilo Volt surge through the internet cable that passed a couple of meters below a near by High Tension Electric Supply line. It was over in a split second a bright spark followed by thick smoke... I lost all computer data peripherals all electrical appliances connected at the time.... and alomost lost my younger daughter who stood separated by a wall 6mm thick panel from the killer surge.... Though the panel was blown to splinters she escaped with just a few strands of burnt hair..... that was about 5 years ago... I came to terms with the loss, I setup again... but no Internet at home..... It was like "once bitten twice shy.." It was only last December I got my self a new connection and here I am... this time no aliases.... just me Sunaabh...

Jan 20 2007, 02:35 AM
I got my nickname back in high school. A friend of mine saw me walking and called out PINOCCHIO! Then he told me i look like that little wooden boy from the Disney cartoon. Ever since then i used the nickname Pinokkio in almost every single forum i joined.
I made my own avatar cause i thought if someone else found it on other forums, they would recognize me and wouldn't confuse me with another user named pinokkio.
