Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > General Computing > The Graphics Gallery

I use windows 98 on cd upgrade and Internet Explorer...this is a new problem and I could use help in fixing it. I initially wrote to allexperts and they recommended I come here. I'm not sure if it's a graphics problem but I'm hoping that it is something that can be fixed with some kind of adjustment to a setting. But please tell me specifically and step by step where to find whatever I may need to access..I'm not particularly computer literate. On this website for example I can read all written material but anything in little boxes with pictures is black. You know where the "code" is when you register? that was hardly readable. And on this screen all the boxes on the toolbar are black. And if I use Mapquest I can't read the map it's all black.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest you run all your AV and spyware just to be sure that the problem isn't caused from something outside the PC that got insude the PC. Besides doing a security check is most important at least bi-weekly if not more offen!
Then post back results. And try the program again to see if this problem is still ongoing. Plus which IE are you using. The IE 7 beta is nolonger a beta and is suppose to be much more secure than all older utilities.
I would post image but can't as I have no BROWSE BUTTON, anyone seen my Browse Button today?
I am sure you might then get some answers.

Hi, maryanne, and welcome to our forum.

In Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced, scroll down and make sure the 'Show Pictures' is checked. (Although as best I recall, this being off usually just leaves a place holder with a red 'x' in the corner.) Does this happen when you open a picture in a program other than the browser? If so, I would suspect a driver problem for the video card.

One of your .dll decoders may be corrupted; if you have a retail/standalone disk of Win98, perform a reinstall and that will replace any corrupted dll(s). It will not damage your data or programs, but just to be safe be sure to off-load all your data, and make sure you have all your program installation disks just in case.
