Hi, I have supplemented my storage by adding a new 80 gig hdd. The old one was a 10 gig. The new one is being recognised in the BIOS but not in the OS. I tried using add new hardware, but it's still not being found.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks

Welcome to SAF.
The bios sees the hardware. Windows sees the software (file structure)
You need to format/partition the drive so that windows can see it. Use the disk that came with it (or download the installation tools from the mfr website). Once formatted/partitioned, it should be seen by both the bios and windows.

Hang on...if I use Win98 start up disk, I should be able to use fdisk, regardless of what make/model the computer is, correct?...
however the drive is only seen as 10. + gig in fdisk [it is an 80 gig drive]
and in the BIOS it is only seen as 65,534MB.
Is there something about ME or is it the Gateway make, or what?
what's going on? ...am back to this again and am now heading towards this

Older bios' cannot see all the space of large drives. The manufacturer install program will install a "bios overlay" so your system can see the entire drive.
