I have a wireless network with a broadband cable connection being used with a netgear wireless router. I just bought a linksys wireless router to set up another network in another location. In an attempt to see if the new linksys router works, I exchanged it on my network with the netgear router. I hardwired an ethernet connection to my pc from the router, but cannot access the internet even though when I go to view the network connections in the control panel, they show that the LAN connection is connected. What must I do to get the new router to work properly? I disconnected it and reconnected the old router and I was instantly able to access the Internet. Help!

Is the PC set to obtain configuration automatically? If not then the gateway setting is probably wrong.

Different manufacturers use different IP addresses and subnets. If you rely on the PC picking this up it usually just works but if you set it manually or if you used the "LAN settings" button in IE then the values will be fixed and can't update.
