Ah, another "Guest" comes to visit SAF and browse it's growing collection of Internet security information. It's a growing archive of security articles, procedures, tools and just plain good advice gleaned from around the Internet, as well as a few written and submitted by yours truly.
I hope you find the threads here useful and informative. Unfortunately, most people simply go and purchase a computer not thinking about the safety and privacy consequences of owning a system and being hooked up to an enormous public network.
It's not their fault....nobody told them they should do or what could happen if they didn't. The rule is "buyer beware". Hell, most people don't even know enough to update their antivirus program or if their system came equipped with a software firewall to keep unwelcome intruders out, they have no idea how to use it.
Well, the purpose here is to change all that. Through education we hope users will leave here with the knowledge and confidence that they will be able to prevent their information, privacy and computers from becoming easy targets for hackers, crackers and Internet vandals.
There's alot of work and research involved in the threads in the Security Articles forums. We think it was worth it if the lights click on in a few user's heads.
So go register an account. We'd love to have you take an active role in SuggestAFix. It's alot of fun, informative and a great way to learn how to make your surfing more enjoyable, safer and more efficient, not to mention helping others with your own pearls of wisdom.
If you have any questions, comments or problems with regards to Internet security, please post in the appropriate forum in the Security forums, otherwise feel free to look around the site and enjoy your stay.
Thanks,
Interceptor
BTW, while some of the articles are older, and a few have some dead links in them (you know how things always change on the 'Net), there's still a wealth of information within them. If a program has a dead link and you think it's something you're interested in, post the location of the dead link and your request in the Security forums.
