I recently hooked my computer to wireless. My husband has a computer in basement running windows 98 se, that we wanted to hook into wireless also. We were told to get an adapter. OK this is simple, put in disk it installed on computer, but we couldn't get connected to internet. Adapter made by Belkin, called their toll free number, spoke for a lengthly time to a lady that was hard to understand (I am american) so after talking to her. I uninstall the adapter try again today and now the computer doesn't recognize that the adapter was installed. I'm ready to take the hammer to this computer. Any suggestions.

could be tcp/ip setting issue.
go to control panel and go into network connections.
right click your wireless connection and go into the properties
highlight internet protocol(tcp/ip) and click properties
select obtain ip address automatically and also obtain dns server address automatically
ok it and see how you get on.

Thanks, I gave it a try, no luck, talked to the adapter manufacturer (Belkin) 3 times, it may be how the router is set up, will have to wait till Monday to call the wireless support. sad.gif

I also use a Belkin router with a wireless satellite system. This is the second Belkin router I've had and used successfully. I've tried 3 other router brands and I had problems with all the rest. I love the Belkin.

Your problem could be the way you have connected the blue cable. I connected the blue cable directly from the router to the modem and it works just fine. You're supposed to install the CD software before connecting the blue cable. I originally had the blue cable connected incorrectly so I bypassed the computer and connected the blue cable directly from the router to the modem and no problems. It worked straight away. By the way....Belkin gives a better coverage than any other brand I tried too. My signal is stronger and I can use the laptop further away from the router too.

Sorry I don't meant this to sound like an ad for Belkin but I've tried the others and have come back to this brand twice now and have been really happy with it. Do give it another try.

Good luck.
