Suggest A Fix PC Support Forums > Operating Systems > Windows Me

Well my old WinME Finally crashed and it will not reboot. After it crashed I pulled the cover off of it and it was full of dust and the fan was laying off to the side. The processor got so hot that it melted the clip that held the fan in place. So when I put it back together I had to lay it on it's side so the fanwouldstay in place.

I cleaned it up and the fan went back to working, but when I tried to reboot all it will do is flash the lights on the front of the tower and just set there with the light on. Any suggestions would help or is there any way to recover information from the hard drive. Not sure it is worth trying to fix because it is so old, about 6 years old. The floppy disc light will not come on at all and it will flash the CDrom and the CD Writer. It sounds like the Hard Drive is trying to start but not sure and no monitor activity. I think itmay have crashed the mother board but just a guess.

The harddrive may be okay. Remove it from that pc. You can install it as a slave into another pc. You can also buy a drive enclosure or, even easier, an IDE to USB converter cable.

Just remember to change the jumper according to the cable mfr / harddrive mfr instructions.

Hi Randy,

Old things may die somehow... rolleyes.gif As efabes said, your HD is probably still working, even if the motherboard has gone. (I have an old -14 years- PII 400 (former 386 -100) still working, but it is an exception, I guess)

You may try to buy a new system and hook this HD as slave on it. smile.gif
