Firstly i hope this post is in the correct section. smiley- confused.gif
An error message come on my screen this morning warning me that my virtual memory is low, can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Also the computer crashed this morning while installing a programme and an error message came on the screen but i clicked don't send instead of viewing the error details wacko.gif , why would it crash as it's a small programme for a mobile phone?
Also the computer is slow sometimes and a bit glitchy and tempramental, i scan for spyware and the likes twice a day and if that hasen't changed anything then i do an A/V scan, doing this dosen't make much difference and i also clear temp files and cookies.
I'm just not happy with the way it's running, it dosen't feel right to me, just like you know when somethings upsetting your best friend (sad i know blushie.gif )

Hi Milly,

Virtual memory is normally a disk space or a setting problem. Take a look here to see if it helps: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;837869

Hi Chris (my hero lol.gif )
I think i fixed the virtual memory problem so thank you again biggrin.gif , but i have another problem, my brother was ebay earlier on today and the screen just started to roll down, broadband is still connected so it was just a matter of clicking the icon again, but why did this happen? it,s not the first time either.

Maybe just some little problem with your mouse scroll wheel ? (or with a keyboard key)... rolleyes.gif

When my old optical mouse wheel stays between two clicks, it also scrolls down.
beanie2blue
Sorry chris i didn't explain myself properly.
The entire screen scrolls down as though broadband is closing down and i can view my whole desktop, as if i haven't opened broadband at all?

How much space do you have left on your harddrive? I also might suggest posting a Hijack This log in the Malware forum to make sure that you don't have any nasties lurking in dark corners of your OS.
beanie2blue
Hi Ranchhand
I have 55.7 gig left on my hard drive. I have only recently posted a hijackthis log should i post again?
I thought my virtual memory had been fixed but i got another message this morning saying the same thing that my virtual memory is running low.

I must agree with Bob... Assuming the link I provided did not solved the problem, it is possible that you have a baddie running, so, better take a look, even to rule this possibility out. rolleyes.gif

Hi Milly,
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://uk.red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi...arch.yahoo.com/

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Also, do you know what StartEx is ? Have you installed it ?

Chris

jimholly
It's probably THIS.
ranchhand
Hi Milly,

You have enough disk space, so XP has enough room for swap memory file. How much actual memory are you running?
beanie2blue
Not sure if this is what your looking for, hope it is

Hi Milly,

Nothing bad in your log, but, you are using 256 MB RAM minus 64 MB shared for video purposes. This may be the problem. Windows is reporting only 351 MB of virtual memory (allocated). The recommended amount for 256 ram is 384, which is barely enough. Mine (also a 256 mB ram system, using no shared memory) is set (by Windows) to 780 MB out of 12 gig remaining, so, you need to set it up, as stated in the MS article link I posted before, to solve the problem.

Also, using Win XP, you'd better add some RAM or use a 128/256 videocard instead of the 64 onboard (shared) video. In the meantime, if you don't use games, enter BIOS and lower the shared video memory value to something like 8 or 16 mB.

Chris
beanie2blue
Thank you everyone once again for all your help. biggrin.gif
I think it's going to have to be more Ram sad.gif

Milly thanks.gif
ranchhand
Yeah, I think you are running out of RAM. You should have 512 minimum.
beanie2blue
Might be a daft question, but will anything go drastically wrong if i don't get more Ram straight away?

Milly
