I am currently connected to the net with 256k connection, up until yesterday i was running xphome with sp1 and i was able to download stuff of bit torrent sites at around 25k, I had to install sp2 to get WPA access to my router.Today ibought xp pro and everything works just fine but eversince I installed WPA over WEP and installed SP2 my bandwidth is down to 5-7k its really enoying I think it might have somthing to do with SP2 does anyone have a solution, or has had this problem before themselves.

Hi prevs, welcome to SAF

Windows XP service pack 2 limits the amount of connections that can be opening at once. This can have an impact on the performance of P2P applications, and may also make the initial connection to the network somewhat slow.
I know there are some patches out there to solve this, like this one on shareaza website, but I've never tested them.

Also, XP QOS service reserves (eats) 20% of your bandwidth by default, so, you may take a look at this QOS service limitation article and workaround: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips254.html

Maybe some other more skilled members can add something here ? rolleyes.gif
