Hello everyone,

Well my problem is this I just installed Win XP-Pro as a fresh install in a DBS100 mobo, ( I know is old, but its for practice) I installed the drivers for my D-Link DFE-530+ ethernet card this part was ok so far. But the problems is that under Device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark under Other Devices/Network Controller. This is causing no obvious problems yet, however I would like to fix this. I though that after installing my ethernet card drivers this will go away. What can be causing this?

I would guess that XP would not require the drivers for that card. The standard windows drivers should work fine. Do a system restore to right before you installed the drivers. I would bet the network card would be listed fine in device manager.

Note that uninstalling the drivers could cause a different set of problems, so go with system restore.

hello, rolleyes.gif

I tried the system restore but it still didnt work, the yellow exclamation mark still appears on the "Network Controller" under Other devices. After doing system restore the drivers for the Nerwork Adapter must also me provided, this drivers I do have (my ethernet card drivers). But what Im having problems with is finding the Network Controller drivers. I though that after installing the latest drivers for XP for my ethernet card it would fix this problem. Anything else I should try

Was the D-Link card listed correctly under Network Adapters, if so I think the "other device" might be a motherboard feature and not part of the NIC.

Also from what I read the card appears to use the Realtek 8139A chip. I seem to recall that chip is the one used on almost all the low cost cards I've seen and the one fitted to many motherboards. I'm fairly sure XP supports it.

yellow exclamation mark still appears on the "Network Controller" under Other devices.

This is because XP couldn't detect it as a network controller, so it has been added as "other device". You must remove it from device manager and properly add it as "network adapter" using either the XP drivers or the ones provided with the card (usually a floppy disk).
