I'm new to this Linux game, but have been using OS for many, many years (from VAX-VMS to all of the flavors of Windows, including Windows 3.1). I decided to go for Ubuntu. I installed (dual boot with WinXp Pro) with no problem. The Update Manager (Update Manager and Synaptic Package Manager are amazing pieces of software - must have been done by an absolute genius) proceeded to update the system and ...presto...I ended up with two different kernel versions (which I can see at boot up in the GRUB boot list). What gives ? Also, I notice the Find Files option under Places in the GUI does not work (related ?), but it works on an other machine where I also installed Ubuntu dual boot with WinXP Pro. By the way, why isn't that machine updating to the latest kernel ? Any advice, anyone ?
