If you need to "physically" secure your system, they sound good. There are a few progs like these, although I've never had cause to use them. They give you full control as to what is available on your system and what you want to allow others to have access to.

So what are some good choices for securing win 98 systems. I'd like to have some of the same controls as I get in win 2k but they only need to be strong enough to keep my son from just booting into win 98 to get on the internet w/o my permission or to get into files I don't want him into.

These programs may be sufficient for your purposes. However, software only security can be defeated in Win 9x by booting to DOS and modifying the System Policies (Registry).
If you are serious about protecting a Win 9x system try DataDefender
