Afternoon. If anyone can help. We have a HP8775C OS-ME. It used to work perfect until we got a virus and had to have someone reinstall ME since we didn't have the disks. Now the sound doesn't work. I have checked Control Panel and Riptide is installed under devices, but on Sounds, I don't have any options to control volume on Audio, there is no playback device and is grayed out. I am totally confused and would appreciate any guidance. Thank you. RV Traveler

You need to reinstall the Windows drivers for your soundcard. Windows ME does NOT include sound. Go to the website of the soundcard manufacturer or try http://www.driverguide.com/.

Also, adding to what efabes said, you must reload the motherboard and chipset drivers, as Windows generic ones may not work on all hardware.
