A friend of mine is using a MSI Motherboard (RS480M2/RX480M2, MS-7093 v1.X M-ATX Mainboard), it has onboard ATI graphics but he's got a Gforce 6600(PCI-E 256) on there.

It freezes or reboots every now and then when he is gaming. I dont think that overheating is a problem cos he has got enough fans on there to power a boeing.

I think that compatibility can be a problem!!

Does anyone out there have an opinion or maybe experienced the same problem with a similar board??? smiley- confused.gif

Hi ManDown,

Have you disabled the integrated onboard graphics on BIOS ?

You may try to download the latest drivers for this 6600 graphic card from here: NVIDIA VGA Driver 77.77 for Win XP 64bit
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driv...list.php?part=2

Just for information, latest drivers for this mobo are here:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/search/ser/S...d=RS480M2&kind=

Hope it will help,

Chris

There are actually 81.85 drivers out for nvidia, and have I installed it. Weird thing I noticed was that when you run dxdiag it said direct x version 4.1 but on the nvidia properties it said 9.0 or better?

Is there a way to totaly uninstall direct x and then do a fresh install of it?

Yes I did disable the ATI in the BIOS

Once installed, DirectX becomes part of the Operating System, and, although there are some programs over there that claims to uninstall it, I can no recommend that.
If you reinstall DirectX9, it may normally overwrite the old version. The latest version is DirectX 9.0c http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/

Have you checked the PCIE settings on BIOS ?

PCIE Frequency (MHz):
Its adjustable range from standard maximum is 100MHz to 148MHz. Please aware that any adjustment over 110MHz may cause your VGA card damaged.
SLI Mode Select:
Generally, we set this item to "Auto" to let BIOS judge the PCI-E mode. Only for some special circumstances do we need to select X16 X1.

The PCIx setting is not more than 100 so i think it will at least be stable.

Concerning the Direct X, i see that the file versions (run dxdiag and then check DX files) ranges from version 5.xx to 6.xx. Does this make any difference, or doesnt DX9.0c affect file versions?

The versions on my pc also has the above mentioned range

Now i'm officially confused wacko.gif

PS i've played the game that was giving problems on the Nvidia 6600 PCIe (Far Cry) using the onboard ATI and the graphics was fine

Just tried NFSU2 and it froze and gave me a blue screen

The following msg is of some concern QUOTE

"The problem seem to be caused by the following file: nv4_disp

The device driver got stuck in an infinate loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x000000EA (0x81d5c020, 0x81b54820, 0x81bb4138, 0x00000001)

eeeeek.gif just googled this nv4_disp infinite loop... this is a never solved issue, as some fixed it by disabling fast writes on BIOS, others, by underclocking the videocard 10~15%, by replacing the PSU by a powefull one, or by reflashing BIOS, but mostly by replacing the motherboard or the videocard...

Now, I am confused too sad.gif
