I have sbc yahoo browser with a 56k dialup modem on a xp laptop. A couple of months ago I visited a website called u.s. parts search, and ever since then about every 5 minutes i keep getting disconected from the internet without warning and then my phone rings. I posted my hijack this logfile under browser hijacking and found some things wrong that I fixed, but nothing that fixes this problem. Please help if you can. Here is a hijack this log from when I am connected to the internet if it helps.

Hi joaquin,

I am moving this thread to the Malicious code forum, as someone skilled on HJT logs can take a look on it. smile.gif

Sorry, Chris...I'm moving this back. We've already ruled out any spyware/adware aspect in the Mal Code forum and I asked Joaquin to post in the Internet forum for some fresh ideas.
Ironbender
Ok Ed. rolleyes.gif My fault... normally, I take a look at the log and move it only if there is something suspicious in it, this time, I saw the log and did not checked.

Joaquin, are there other phones or a fax machine on the same line ? Some rechargeable cordless phones drains power directly from the phone line when recharging recall memory batteries. If it's the case, disconnecting other devices from the phone line may help.

Phone cables come in different qualities. If you are getting a lot of drop-outs, good quality phone cable is worth investing in. If possible, try plugging the modem directly into the phone line with no other devices attached anywhere in the house, including long distance call blockers or alarms.

If you have a mail client checking for mail every few minutes, ensure that the "disconnect after sending/receiving messages" box is not checked. (Outlook Express <Tools/options/connection tab> )

You may also take a look at this resource: http://www.56k.com/trouble/disconn.shtml

Post back if the problem persists.

Chris
