I used to have windows 95 and used the windows media player without a problem. I have since upgraded to ME and downloaded Windows media player 9 from microsoft site. About 50% of my video files will play and the other half won't. A little green arrow icon appears in the bottom right hand corner ( by my clock and broadband conection icon) and the first frame of the video file shows on the screen. Then it just freezes the whole of the computer. Any help as to why/what is happening would be greatly appreciated.

Experiencing playback problems
If you are experiencing audio or video problems while playing digital media files, install the latest audio and video drivers for your hardware from the hardware manufacturer's Web site. Problems may include choppy playback, video that does not display, or video that is displayed upside down.

When you upgraded, have you done this or are you using the Windows generic drivers ?

Hallo Winner,

Your video image freezes but the sound still works, right?

I use to have this problem too in my Win ME (now I am using XP, really mutch better).

It looks like a codec problem to me !

best regards

Thanks Winandy and Ironbender. Winandy, yes you are right the picture freezes but still have sound. You say it sounds like a codec problem, did you manage to fix the problem or did you leave it till you upgraded ? I have tried to upgrade to XP but it wouldn't let me. So i am stuck with ME till I can get a new computer. smileyshot.gif
