Hello, I am trying tp put a gaming system together and was wondering if you gurus could give me some recommendations.
First of all, I want to get all of my stuff from http://www.newegg.com/ and my price range is about $700 give or take $100.
These are my requirements.
CPU: I had been told before that AMD (athlons?)chips were better than pentiums for overclocking a while back, not sure if that still holds true, I want a good fast CPU that I shouldnt have to replace for a while, at the same time I dont want to spend all my budget on the best CPU out there and then have to get low end stuff for everything else, maybe a CPU around 3.0Ghz?
Motherboard: must support Raid0/1, must have at least 1 PCIe 16x slot, preferably with onboard sound & ethernet, not so much worried about the video since I want a separate video card. Support up to 3 0r 4Gbs of RAM. I want a really good mother board, this should probably be the best component in the PC since I dont want to be replacing this any time soon. I suppose my priority when it comes to the parts is Motherboard, then CPU, then graphics card.
Ram: 1Gb of DDR2, preferable CAS3 or lower
HDDs: 2 7200rpm drives of at least 80GBs which I can use for Raid
Video Card: This is a gaming system so I do want a good PCIe graphics card. I dont want the high end stuff but probably somewhere around second or third best in the list with at least 128mbs of ram built in.
I think that is pretty much it, I would really appreciate any suggestions http://www.newegg.com/ has some really good stuff on their site and I just want to make sure I get a good system. I also want to buy a good flat screen monitor. I have about $1000 worth of budget so if i spend $700 on the PC that would leave me about $300-$400 to spend on a monitor however, I really would prefer to have a great system now, a monitor could always come later I guess. Thanx for your help!
