smiley- confused.gif just got a new system with xp home edition already installed. no discs with it at all. i have to make recovery discs. can i use cd-rw discs? my system says to use dvd or cd-r. since i can only make one set i don't want to make a mistake. this xp is just like starting over again to me. everything is different.
thanks

If you are using the program that came on the pc to make the disc set, then I would guess the answer is "no." CD/DVD RW are formatted differently and their program probably can't do it. This would make sense as a RW disc can be erased/damaged later if placed in a RW drive.

Hi, smile.gif smile.gif
I have a computer like yours with the recovery info on the hidden partition on the hard drive. Re the type of disk to use for making your recovery disks the answer I got from Microsoft was to use CD-Rs so that the disks could not accidentally be erased and reused. Re XP I know what you mean. I had a Windows 98 computer for 4 years and I learned how to use computers using Windows 95 so when I bought this computer in January 2004 I discovered that I couldn't find anything at all and it was just like starting over. I have learned a lot about XP since last January. I have taken advantage of the feature that XP has to change the desktop back to classic look (Windows 95 and 98) instead of "the XP look". To make your Start menu classic, right click on the start button and go to properties on the menu that appears. You will see Classic Start Menu as the second choice. Returning my Start menu to the classic look has helped me to find many things.

Hi,  smile.gif  smile.gif
I have a computer like yours with the recovery info on the hidden partition on the hard drive.  Re the type of disk to use for making your recovery disks the answer I got from Microsoft was to use CR-Rs so that the disks could not accidentally be erased and reused.  Re XP I know what you mean.  I had a Windows 98 computer for 4 years and I learned how to use computers using Windows 95 so when I bought this computer in January 2004 I discovered that I couldn't find anything at all and it was just like starting over.  I have learned a lot about XP since last January. You are right, Chris. That CR-R thingy was a typo. I didn't catch that until this morning when I received the post asking what CR-Rs were.
