Hello i need some help with my pc. The problem is that when i delete a large file like a video or music file and send it to the recycle bin and then try to delete it by right clicking and pressing empty my explorer freezes (Ctrl-alt-delete still works) and i have to restart my computer. But the strange thing is that when i restart pc and then try deleting them it works but when i delete something else the same thing happends. I have scaned for spyware and viruses and nothing was found.i also tried deleting everything in username/temp folder but that didint work so now im stuck. sad.gif banghead[1].gif . Thank you for any advise. ps I have windows XP SP2, Athlon AMD 64 3700+ and RADEON x600 series. MY pc works perfecly exept of this.

HI Imlost, welcome to SAF

Sounds like some virtual memory setting or corrupted Windows file issue.

Personally, I never use the recycle bin, I always hit [Shift][Del] rolleyes.gif

Check your virtual memory settings. You may also try a "repair Install" (not a fresh install) from Windows CD.

What should i change in the virtual memory settings?
the paging file size is set to 1536 mb i have a 250 gb HD
How do you do a repair install?
i put cd xp cd in but no repair option available. Thx again

Page file size is normally set to 2.5xRam capacity.

If you do not have a repair install option, it's possible that you have a recovery disk shipped with some computers, not a full Windows XP CD sad.gif

i have 1 GB of ram so i should change it ? how ?
so there is no way to repair install? Thx for all your help.

Better let Windows manage your virtual memory settings. Sorry, but I typed 2.5x accidentally, ideal pagefile setting is 1.5xRAM capacity.
You can safely set it beyond this limit and test it to see if it works, as you have a lot of disk space rolleyes.gif

If your computer is working fine (as you said) except for this, you can delete very huge files by using [Shift][Del] instead of [Del]. Note that files deleted by this way may not be recovered later without specialized tools.

Ive set it too 2700 mb and restarted pc but it still doent work. I have this other program that works like a recycle bin so i will use that. Thank you for all your help.

Just wondering if this other program is not interfering with Windows original recycle bin...

Hi Imlost,

Try to remember on what day this first started.

Then go to system restore, and restore back to the next restore point before that day. See if that helps.

System Restore: Start / Help and Support / Undo Changes To Your Computer With System Restore / Restore My Copmputer To An Earlier Time / Choose the day off the little calendar and click Next and follow the prompts.
