Here is another game, that looks like fun, I got it from the Gardener's Forum

You take three words, and the next person has to say what word goes with it...

If the person doesn't give the right answer, then you wait, and see if someone, will have the right answer.

Then after a few tries, and no one has the answer, you let them know what the answer is, and give three more words.

Yes, there could be a few different answers, but it's the one you're thinking of that is the right answer. If a person knows for sure what the right answer is, then they can add the next three words.

These are the rules. (from Angus) and I agree.

If the word to be added always come at the beginning or the end, then it's always OK. However, if the word comes before in some and after in others, then the problem-poster has to state that it's mixed (but doesn't have to say which words are pre-pended and which words are appended).

Sample...Kick, Base, Soft

and the next person will say...Ball....

Kickball...Baseball, Softball

Sample for mixed...clothes, dance, fence

And the next person will say...Line

Clothes line, Line dance, Fence line

Then that person will give another three words

Ok, I'll start off, and you give a word that goes with all three biggrin.gif

Coat, Airplane, Cliff
Mrs. Bond
Hanger/Hangar

Car ~~~ Air ~~~ Ship

LF from MC
That's a good one Mrs. Bond..

Line... unsure.gif
Mrs. Bond
Hi Lorraine wavey.gif

"Line" is not what I had in mind, but it would work. I was thinking about the concept of this game later last evening and actually, in some instances, I think perhaps there could be multiple answers.

It's a good idea for a game and it should be fun to see what kinds of thoughts different people come up with. Thanks for starting a new game; I think we needed it. smiley- yes.gif

BTW: Is the person who said the three words supposed to post the answer they were thinking after the first attempted reply, or just let others keep guessing until someone hits it exactly right?

Hi Mrs. Bond,

I'm glad you like the game. biggrin.gif

If the person doesn't give the right answer, then you wait, and see if someone, will have the right answer. biggrin.gif

Yes, there could be a few different answers, but it's the one you're thinking of that is the right answer. Then if a person knows for sure what the right answer is, like you did, then they can add the next three words.

I really didn't think it was right, it didn't seem to go right with all three, that's why I didn't add three more words.

BTY, what was the right answer? I'm going to add what I just said, on the first post, so it will give them a better idea.

I still don't know what the answer is to your yet. I'm still thinking. unsure.gif biggrin.gif

EDIT: could it be ...CORN
Mrs. Bond
Yes Lorraine, you are right with your answer to the second one ... CORN smiley- thumb up.gif

The word I was thinking in the first one was PORT. However, after some consideration, perhaps "ship" was not a good word to include. My thought was that a "ship pulls into port" ... However, I guess there really is no such thing as a "ship-port". My apologies for being wacko.gif.

Will you give me a little slack on that first one? I think a new game takes a try or two to get the hang of exactly how it works, and to see how other people react to it. I'll try to choose better words next time.

You did good though with the "corn" thing! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the elaboration on the game rules/guidelines; that should make it easier for all to join in.

Here's a real easy one:

chocolate ~~~ poker ~~~ potato

jram
chip smile.gif

peanut butter**** baloney*** Turkey

You're welcome Mrs. Bond biggrin.gif

It took me a while to think about it, especial when you have to try and come up with something for all three words biggrin.gif

Hi jram wavey.gif nice to see you in here biggrin.gif

Sandwich

I'll give another easy one..

Sweet....Bread & butter....Dill
Mrs. Bond
Good Heavens JR - What a surprise! It's about time - glad to have you join us!

Answer to Lorraine's words = Pickles.

New words: Jump ~ Ski ~ Lasso

Lorraine: Another question for you . . . Can the "Answer" word be applicable before the clue word, or does it have to follow the clue word?

Just my humble opinion but I think if the "answer" word could be either before or after the clue word, it would broaden the range of possible words to use. Maybe my thinking cap isn't on straight today, but I'm having a hard time thinking of stuff that is a little more complex and it seems like the game is almost too easy. What do you think?

Does anybody else have any opinions or thoughts on this subject?

It can go before or after, but! it has to go before all three words, or after all three words, they can't be mixed.

I'm going to say ...rope unsure.gif

Well doggone it anyway - you just ruined all my fun! LOOOOOL. I was hoping to be able to mix them. Oh well ...........

You are correct with your ROPE answer.

New words: Evening ~ Time ~ Job
Angoid
I'm going to jump in here with LESS .... I guess "eveningless" is a word (meaning to not have an evening) blink.gif
LF from MC
I'm going to say...LOST

Evening lost, Time lost, Job lost...

Or it could be the other way around

Lost Evening, Lost Time, Lost Job...

unsure.gif

Mrs. Bond, don't forget, if the person has the right answer, it's their turn to put in the next three words biggrin.gif lol.gif lol.gif

Hey Angoid,
Glad you joined us ... I almost was thinking that Lorraine and I may have to play this game by ourselves. lol.gif Unfortunately, your reply of LESS is not the word I was thinking of.

Hi Lorraine,
Sorry about adding three new words when I should not have done so. For some reason, I'm not "getting the gist" of the proper protocol for this game. I apologize. Your answer of LOST is not correct either, although it would work just fine.

The word I had in mind was "GOOD" ......... Good Evening, Good Time, Good Job.

I'm going to bow out and let this go for awhile until I've had time to see the general flow of how this game works. Hopefully, Marcia, Zenith, and some of the others who like games will join in and have some fun with this one.

LF from MC
That was a good one Mrs. Bond biggrin.gif Now you come back smiley- yes.gif smiley- now.gif you'll get it, there's no need to apologize It's just a game biggrin.gif

Ok I'll put in the next three words....

telephone

finish

fence
Angoid
Would it be POST by any chance?!?!
LF from MC
Nope, sad.gif

Try again biggrin.gif
Jeannie
Line?
LF from MC
boing.gif smiley- yes.gif smiley- thumb up.gif That's it Jeannie, good for you.

Jeannie
Black

Blue

Straw smile.gif
jimholly
Blackberry
Blueberry
Strawberry

Lame

Tumor

Teaser

LF from MC
I'm going to say...brain unsure.gif

The only thing it doesn't go with lame, that I could see. Although you could say...lame brain, but it would be on the wrong end. lol.gif

Where you would say

brain tumor

brain teaser
jimholly
You got it! Lamebrain is a word.

lamebrain:

NOUN: Informal - A stupid person; a dolt.
OTHER FORMS: lamebrained —ADJECTIVE

Moby Thesaurus words for "lamebrain":

Boeotian, block, clod, dimwit, dolt, donkey, dope, dullard, dumb cluck, dumbbell, dummy, dunce, gowk, jobbernowl, lackwit, lightweight, looby, loon, niais, nincompoop, ninny, ninnyhammer, nitwit, noddy, put, stupid, thickwit, witling.

Angoid
OK, off-topic a bit I know, but I always like this sort of expression:

One sandwich short of a picnic
One brick short of a load
Lights on but nobody at home
Not the brightest light in the harbour
Not the sharpest tool in the shed
One letter short of a word
One word short of a sentence
One sentence short of a paragraph
One paragraph short of a chapter
One chapter short of a book
...

OK, I made those last ones up (=> not heard them before) blink.gif

OK, try this triplet:

Mouth
Speaker
Hailer

I know Jim, biggrin.gif

It's just that it is on the wrong end, unless it should go like this

Lame brain

tumor brain

teaser brain

And not like this...

Lame brain

Brain tumor

Brain teaser

The extra word should be on the same side, well that's what I think...Let's hear it from the rest.

OK everyone, do you want to have them all on the same side, or mixed. I'm leaving it up to you!!!

I'm easy to get along with biggrin.gif
LF from MC
For yours Angus..

LOUD.........I think that's it

Loud Mouth

Loud Speaker

Loud Hailer
Jeannie
I want them all on the same side. ~~~ smile.gif ~~
jimholly
Aw.... GEE!!! The game is already too easy. Mixed adds a little 'spice' to it. smiley- confused.gif
Mrs. Bond
Given my previous post, I guess I don't have any right to put my 2 cents worth in here, but I'm going to do it anyway. lol.gif

I agree with Jim ... "Mixed" is better because it makes you think more ...

The "answer" word should be a "common denominator" ... no matter whether the denominator is on the top or the bottom - lol.gif After all, it's not a math game! LOOOOOOOOOL

eeeeek.gif wacko.gif I don't know Mrs. Bond, my brain might not be able to handle it. lol.gif lol.gif

OK, We need someone to break the tie...so we can get on with the game.
Angoid
You're right Lorraine. LOUD is the correct word.

I'll come back once I can think of a suitably hard one smile.gif
LF from MC
I got the right answer, so it's my turn... biggrin.gif

Knife

Daniels

Frost

Angus, You have to help us break the tie, let us know if you want them mixed or all in front or back of the words.
LF from MC
Where is everyone eeeeek.gif
Jeannie
I'm here. I was filing away the e mail on my computer and before that I was at Like the Wheel of Fortune.

I will guess the word is Jack
LF from MC
Jack is correct Jeannie, your turn biggrin.gif
Jeannie
OK here's an easy one.

Peach

Apple

Pear
LF from MC
What about..Pie

Peachpie

Applepie

Pearpie blink.gif Never heard of a pearpie before
Angoid
As for breaking the tie, how about introducing the following rule:

If the word to be added always come at the beginning or the end, then it's always OK. However, if the word comes before in some and after in others, then the problem-poster has to state that it's mixed (but doesn't have to say which words are pre-pended and which words are appended).

Does that break the tie?

For example, this one is mixed:

Tie
Tea
Dance

As for the peach, apple, pear one .... I'll let Lorraine's answer ride there as I don't have any better ideas smile.gif
Jeannie
Good guess, but that's not the answer. Try again.

Angus, that sounds like a very good rule biggrin.gif

We can handle that, right Jeannie? smiley- yes.gif

And I think the answer to yours Jeannie is tree

Peach tree

Apple tree

Pear tree

Angus, I'll have to think more about yours.

Ok, Jim and Mrs. Bond, come on back!!!
LF from MC
Can't seem to get this one, but I'll go with... LINE smile.gif

Tie line

Tea line

Line Dance

Maybe someone has something better.
Jeannie
Yes, biggrin.gif we can live with Angus's solution, Lorraine. You guessed the answer when you guessed tree.

apple tree

peach tree

pear tree

smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif lol.gif biggrin.gif

EDIT: I posted this and noticed that I had posted pear tree as peartree. Sooo can't have that!!
Angoid
Sorry Jeannie, we can't live with Lorrain'e answer because it's wrong!!!!!!
Jeannie
Lorraine's answer to the tie breaking question or the answer to my puzzle? She got the puzzle answer right. I still don't know the solution to the question of how to resolve our problem then. I will say that I like the words all on one side because it's easier for me, but some have said that they like the words mixed because it's harder and this is true. It is harder this way. So, I guess that we are back where we started.?

Does everybody want me to come up with the solution to which side the word should be on? Waiting to hear. . .

It's ok Jeannie, were going by Angus had said above. It will be mixed, but they will have to say it's mixed.

See how my last answer was, I gave Angus's for his words.
Jeannie
O.K. smiley- thumb up.gif

Oh!! Angus, where are you wavey.gif

Did I get the right answer 'BREAK' this time??? biggrin.gif
