Full Version: Pictures do not display

Hi everybody,
My pictures are not displaying anymore in Internet Explorer 6 or in Outlook Express 6. I have checked the settings for the picture display and "show pictures" is checked. Yahoo pictures do not display, nor do most others. Some do immediately and some pics take a long time to display but they will and some pics will not display at all. I have discovered that an ActiveX Control is damaged. Its file number is {49232000-16E4-426C-A231-62846947304B}. What is this and would a reformat fix it and is this why the pics don't display correctly? Thanks. wacko.gif

EDIT: When I click on house icon to go to homepage instead of going to Yahoo I am taken to a white page with the message "This Page Cannot Be Displayed. The Website May Be Temporarily Unavailable or You May Need to Adjust Your Browser Settings." To my knowledge my browser settings have not changed but when I click the Refresh icon, the page will display although I sometimes have to do this twice. blink.gif wacko.gif unsure.gif

Hi Jeannie,

Have you tried a system restore ?

This may happen sometimes (do not ask me why), and when I lost connection I immediately restore my system and all works fine again.

Hi Chris,
I forgot all about System Restore. I had 98 for 4 years and I am still used to it. I bought this last January. I will run a System Restore and post back with the results.

EDIT: I ran System Restore even though I had it turned off. I didn't know if it would work, but it suprised me and so far it's working. I went to the e mail and the computer can't find the accounts, but that's another matter entirely. Thanks, Chris for your help. smile.gif

The trick with (handy) system restore feature is to create a restore point when your system is running fine or before doing some system changes, as if something goes wrong, you can turn it back to it's previous state in minutes. biggrin.gif

How do you set the System Restore using minutes? The computer's working fine now since I restored it to September 30 even though the System Restore was running then. I had turned it off the last time a nasty got on my computer.

??? System restore is managed by Windows, and creates restore points automatically from time to time. This uses hard disk space, but can be set on properties.

You can also, from <control panel/clean disk>, remove all previous restore points but the last one, saving hard disk space.

Thanks Lorraine and Chris,
I did have my System Restore turned off from the last time I had nasties on my computer because one of the spyware programs makes a backup and I didn't want it to back up infected data. I just never turned System Restore back on until last night and the computer was working fine. However this morning, I received the message that it could not find the server to my e mail accounts and so I retyped the settings. I copied them from the paper I got from the ISP. I did this twice and I still received the same "cstel.net cannot be found. Make sure you have typed the name of the server correctly. . . mail.cstel.net" message. Then I uninstalled Outlook Express and reinstalled it and I still received this same "cannot find server" message so I have a call in to the ISP tech support specialist in the hope that he can tell me how to fix this short of a reformat. Do either of you have any ideas about what's causing this. I do belong to quite a few Yahoo groups and I think that I am going to change the settings for them at Yahoo so the e mails all go to my Yahoo account instead of my POP account. Thanks again for your help!! Jeannie

If you are able to browse normally, it's probably just some security setting... (pop/smtp ports, secure login, etc...)

Have you tried to access your mail in OE after disabling the firewall or the antivirus ?
Jeannie
Hi Chris,
Sorry to be so long in answering. I called the tech support specialist for the ISP I subscribe to Friday and he said that something had gotten broken in IE and he advised me to run a repair install of IE and this would fix OE. I did and the computer ran better at least enough to connect to the Internet and let me back up data and format my drive so now the computer is running fine. The format fixed whatever was wrong.
